A lot has changed since the establishment of GES in 1974. The 1992 Constitution of the Republic of Ghana gave endorsement to the Service under Article 190 and then subsequently in the Ghana Education Service Act 506, 1995. In 2008, the passage of the new Education Act 778 introduced changes in the structure of the Service, yet upholding its key responsibility of managing the pre-tertiary education in Ghana. .
